Platform

According to many car experts, the difference between the two is all about its platform, whether the model is based on a car chassis or a truck chassis. A crossover use a “unibody” architecture (a car chassis) which means the body of the car and its frame are a single piece. While, the SUV uses a “body on frame” design (a truck chassis) which means the body is built separately from the frame and place together afterwards.

Benefits

While both Crossover and SUVs deliver an amazing service to passengers. Their designs have different benefits. The Crossovers or its “unibody” design offers a ride quality, fuel efficiency and agility. While, the SUVs are built for more hauling duties where the design are more durable in terms of rust and more challenging terrain.

However, given the difference between the two vehicles, many shoppers still refer the crossovers as SUVs resulting that the term “SUV” is often applied to both crossovers and SUVs despite their appearance and marketing. But, if you are unsure whether the vehicle of your choice uses a unibody design or a body-on-frame, the safest term to use is “SUV” since it is used to describe nearly anything with available all-wheel drive.
